A space “sim” made with Godot.
I’ve long had a desire to create a space sim like game. After playing House of the Dying Sun I’ve not found anything quite like it. And have been inspired to create something along the lines of it, with Homeworld like visuals.
The plan is to create viable gameplay first, then expand on the visuals and audio. Story and mission structure comes last. Eventually introduce other experienced people for art/audio.
After a lot of experience with Unity, and a bit with UE, I’ve found Godot to be the perfect engine for this type of game. It’s not AAAA, and is meant to be light on the visuals and size. Along with Blender, other open source tools will be used to develop this.
Most time was first spent learning Godot, and working to finance life. This will be a side project first and foremost, so no high expectations, but the plan is to eventually make it a complete game. And posting this publicly is a way to make me work on the game.
Unlike HOTD, the game will have lateral and vertical movement for your ship. The focus will mostly be on your own ship and likely no control over your supporting ships. Everything else will be determined at a later date as we add one gameplay system after another. The scope should be restrained and I’ll try to not “Star Citizen” this game.
The devlog will be posted whenever because I can’t make promises to keep this on a regular schedule.
